Powder room Renovation – a small bath remodel.

We recently remodeled a powder room in Evanston. The toilet in this small bathroom was offset, so we centered the toilet and added herringbone tile to the floor.

We installed faucets on the wall and mounted a small sink to maximize space in this Victorian home in historic Evanston. We added bead board wainscoting, painted green, and jungle themed wall paper to the top half of the room.

The green background was a great background for the gold faucet fixtures.

What is the cost of a small bathroom remodel?

Small Bathroom remodel – floor tile cost

Lets start with a basic small bathroom remodel – new floor tile. If you are able to reuse your current toilet and vanity, but need new floor tile in your half bathroom, we can help.

New floor tile – installation labor : $2400

This project can make a dramatic difference in your powder room. To install new floor tile, first you must remove the baseboard trim and old flooring down to the subfloor. The second step is to install cement backer board. Next the tile and grout will be installed, followed by the re-installation of your toilet and vanity. And finally the baseboard would be reinstalled and touched up with paint. Material cost is not included in this estimate and can range from $200-$500.

New lighting, toilet and vanity cost for a small bath remodel

If you have gone to the trouble of replacing the bathroom floor tile, a new towel hook and new lighting, along with a new vanity and toilet installation can take your bathroom renovation to the next level.

Lighting, Vanity and toilet – installation labor : $600

This cost is for a 30″ wide vanity and assumes no changes to any plumbing. This does not include any material cost such as lighting, vanity, faucet and drain, or the toilet. You should keep these items in mind when planning your bath remodel budget.

Fresh paint powder room cost

The “icing on the cake” in your bathroom remodel project is going to be a fresh coat of paint on walls, doors and trim. Changes to the floor may create small drywall repairs that may also be necessary.

Paint a half bath-2 coats walls, one coat doors ceiling and trim (materials included): $600

We recommend eggshell, satin or semi-gloss finish for bathroom paint, in order to reduce moisture absorption. However, in a half bath any paint can be functional. Some paint manufacturers have paint specifically formulated for large and small bathrooms.
